INWOOD – LA FRONTERA – NOSTYLGIA T-SHIRT::AVAILABLE NOW

This Nostylgia design collaboration with yet another talented local artist, Erich Erving, was inspired by 1950’s vintage iron-on graphics that celebrated our original American Frontiersmen like Daniel Boone who forged their way West into a pristine wilderness much like Inwood, symbolically the final frontier of this Manhattan landscape.  Long settled by generations of diverse New Yorkers and most recently known for its rich Latino heritage our Uptown neighborhood is a throwback to a forgotten NYC when neighborhoods were neighborhoods and they had a unimitateable natural pulse of their own.  Nostylgia is proud to call this “Frontera” our home for life, and it is an indelible part of our brand identity. Unlike the American frontier though we aim to retain the natural environment of Inwood and uptown in all its glory. So whether you’re a new or old resident or even just a visitor, stop into Nostylgia to pick up a “La Frontera” T-Shirt and to experience the spirit of Inwood embodied within our store, a unique experience and without a doubt, the best in NYC!

IMPROMPTU ART w/ MR. CHICKENS & ROBOTS – Edward Ubiera

After erasing our incomplete menu at the Inwood Tea Bar and Chess Lounge early in the week, I’ve been pressed to find the time to re-chalk our unabridged offerings list. Our neighborhood buddy and artist Edward Ubiera who you might remember from our Inwood Farmers Market and Wolverine 1000 Mile Collaberation T-Shirts stopped in this morning to check out the 1946’s Sebago Chukkas we posted earlier. He was feeling the creative vibe as always so we let him get busy. Although board space as limited he fit all our teas as best as possible and we plan on expanded to a full wall board soon so Mr. Ubiera can really get wild. Stop in soon to read our menu and try THE BEST TEA IN TOWN!

Apparel History: THE MACKINAW COAT

As it’s almost time to say goodbye to winter once and for all in 2011 I want to pay personal homage to the coat that got me through the season, my little friend called Mackinaw. But who or what is Mackinaw?

After some research I learned Mackinaw was originally a name of a very heavy weight, water repellant wool fabric invented sometime in the early 1800’s by traders in the Lake Michigan area. Named after the Straits of Mackinac, the coats created by this fabric became the standard among all outdoorsmen of the Midwest and it’s usefullness has endured throught the centuries.

Manufactured by many great American clothing brands, my dear Mackinaw was made by Woolrich in the 1960s.  Lucky for you though they made more than one back then and  Nostylgia still has an identical twin in stock and on sale. So stop in soon, get Mackinaw now and after winter 2012 you’ll be thanking Mackinaw too.

NOSTYLGIA x BEAVERS::Rustic Shelving at The Inwood Tea Bar & Chess Lounge

Collaberations are king in the design world. We feel what better way to show authenticity in production than to collaberate with the originator of a technique. Well this time, Nostylgia has pulled off the impossible collaberation project. Teaming up with mother nature’s original carpenters, a family of wild beavers, who chopped down and precisely gnawed fresh birch wood into beautifully unique and rustic shelving to go into the indoor park scene that is The Inwood Tea Bar and Chess Lounge. Now that’s something only Nostylgia “The New American Classic” can make happen. Don’t believe us, then come in, take a closer look for yourself, and don’t forget to buy a tea and biscotti while you’re at it.

Disclaimer: No beavers were harmed during the making of these amazing shelves. In fact these shelves were made by a custom wood worker that we met online. However, now that I think of it, I’ve never seen him in person so I’m sticking with my story and these shelves were indeed made by beavers!
