Hand made, one-by-one in New York City, USA! Made of fine jersey cotton and enhanced with a woven pima cotton shawl collar, real metal buttons, and genuine leather, natural jute, and wood toggle pocket clusures; this cardigan is simply luxurious American design and craftsmanship at its best!
This Nostylgia design collaboration with yet another talented local artist, Erich Erving, was inspired by 1950’s vintage iron-on graphics that celebrated our original American Frontiersmen like Daniel Boone who forged their way West into a pristine wilderness much like Inwood, symbolically the final frontier of this Manhattan landscape. Long settled by generations of diverse New Yorkers and most recently known for its rich Latino heritage our Uptown neighborhood is a throwback to a forgotten NYC when neighborhoods were neighborhoods and they had a unimitateable natural pulse of their own. Nostylgia is proud to call this “Frontera” our home for life, and it is an indelible part of our brand identity. Unlike the American frontier though we aim to retain the natural environment of Inwood and uptown in all its glory. After over 100 hours of hand illustration work just the way it was done in the glory days of fashion advertising and design, we are finally proud to introduce the Nostylgia: New American Classic 2011 Spring/Summer Lookbook. Inspired by decades of American fashion, lifestyle, culture, and last but never least utilitarian use, we bring you 4 distinct original collections ranging from US Naval and American Frontier for the Spring to Classic Prep and 40’s Beach for the Summer. Highlights include a feather weight wool lapel waistcoat with leather trim, an interchangeable collar tuxedo shirt, a captains lace trimmed anchor t-shirt, a shawl neck naval cardigan, a color cavalcade of chino shorts and pants, and a vintage surfer hand print look neck camp shirt just for starters. Many might be wondering why we haven’t been keeping up with regular blog post lately so here’s your answer. We’ve had our nose to the grindstone around the clock getting ready for what is going a huge night followed by any even huger(not a word) spring and summer. Get ready, hope to see you all there looking your best.
The past weekend Nostylgia’s first family of myself and my beautiful fiance, were invited to take part in the inaugural weekend of the UPPERCLUB, Uptown’s first official supper club hosted by young chef Lester and his fiance Davida. Though new to the idea myself, I hear supper clubs are all the rave in Europe and other parts of the NYC, so I couldnt pass up the opportunity to indulge in a gourmet 7 course meal while meeting new and interesting people.
The entire night oozed with a nostalgic social ambiance much like local dinner parties of the 40s and 50s. A time when couples would wine and dine together until the wee hours of the night. The highlight for us was honestly the whole experience but the red snapper ceviche in a veracruzana sauce was definitely my favorite dish along with the Hibiscus Granita, made from the supply at our own Inwood Tea Bar and Chess Lounge.

Stories have been told about them, movie’s and countless afterschool specials have been based on them; so what could be more Nostylgic than that four letter word that many high schoolers dream of…PROM. Yes, prom – the teenager’s rite of passage all packed into a single night designed to transform your average kid into a wining, dining, and dancing connoisseur of the black tie affair.
While Nostylgia is not advocating the wining part, we are teaming with Operation PROM and running a men’s formal wear drive. Nostylgia will be taking donations stating immediately and throughout the entire Month of May. We will gladly offer a 10% discount to anybody who is able to donate. While dresses are a bit easier to come by, Tuxedo are a rarer donation and Operation PROM often has to pay close to full priced for evening rentals; so they REALLY NEED THIS!
Operation PROM an AMAZING 501 C 3 Charity founded by Noel D’ Allaco in 2005. They serve to provide underprivileged students with dresses, tuxedos and all the things(not including wine) needed to enjoy Prom the way so many generations have before. They also provide scholarships and a vast array of help for students moving on to the next steps of their educational pursuits. Started in NY, Operation Prom now has chapters in many states across the nation and the students they help need all the donations you can afford.
Please spread the word to anybody who may have formal wear to donate. Operation PROM will also provide proof of donations for tax write-off purposes.
